VACC Mission #2: Celebrate Aging and the Aged. This retirement home recognizes the importance of acknowledging milestone events in the aged person’s life. Because doing so enables the celebrant to feel seen, appreciated, cared for, and a part of a supportive community. Thus this happy old folks home takes to heart VACC Mission#2: celebrate aging and the aged.

Birthdays provide precious opportunities to give our elderly loved ones their flowers while they are alive. They allow us to pause and show appreciation for those we count as special, and hold dear in our lives. Milestone birthdays can feel extra special and often evoke joyful celebration, and because they mark a transition from one stage to another, from one decade to another deserve special notice.

In June the team surprised an unsuspecting celebrant on her milestone birthday with a festive cake and a rousing cheer and song. The joy and happiness evident in her was heartwarming to see, and in turn her impartation of a powerful blessing to the staff was priceless. VACC is banishing isolation, building community, and accomplishing VACC Mission #2: to celebrate aging and the aged, one precious gem at a time. Because at VACC, elders are gems!

JUNE JOY

Four Score- Hip Hip Hooray!!!! The VACC team surprises a beloved daycare gem on her special milestone with a birthday cake and cheer.

Then in July another treasured VACC gem crossed the 4 score and 10 (90 yrs) mark-wow, what an achievement!!! Aging is living, and reaching such a threshold is indeed a gift and an achievement to be celebrated.

VACC is privileged to come alongside these wonderful seniors and lift up a cheer or two or three in their honor.
