In honor of this very special day, Vibrant Aging Community Center (VACC) hosted its 1st Annual Elder Fair on Saturday, October 1st, 2022 from 10 am to 3 pm in Winneba, Ghana. The day also served as the official launch of the VACC Adult Daycare Program.
There were frantic preparations leading up to the day, special announcements over the local radio airwaves, and much excitement in the Simpa air… The day dawned overcast and with rain- it hadn’t rained for weeks and yet the weather forecast for the day: “thunderstorms from 11 am-2 pm.” Unfazed and undaunted the team continued to prepare and get ready. Showers of blessings indeed, wondrously clearing as the program started on schedule and the day’s festivities unfolded.
A great time was had by all. Fair attendees partook of an entertaining array of activities such as Ludo!, Oware!, and Dam! game challenges and also learned creative beadwork. Many took advantage of complimentary health screens performed by a team of volunteers from an area hospital. There were stories of resilience shared, good eats and conversation, music and dancing, and challenge winners were awarded their prizes! Lifelong friends and old classmates met again, new friends and acquaintances connected. Most importantly of all, on full display -belly laughs, and happy, smiling faces of our elders. Folks have done it again, collectively proving that it takes a community to build the community!
“He has done exceedingly abundantly above all we asked for and thought possible”.
We are deeply grateful to all our generous supporters and sponsors from all over who came alongside with financial assistance, talent, time, and resources to inaugurate this wonderful event and celebration. Their goodwill and generous support ensured that this 1st community event for elders hosted by and at Vibrant Aging Community Center in Winneba, went from dream to reality.
